âïž Why Handwritten Postcards Matter for Recruits
In the digital age, college coaches receive hundreds of emails, messages, and DMs every week, but almost no one takes the time to write by hand anymore. Thatâs exactly why a handwritten postcard stands out.
Sending a personal note shows genuine effort, maturity, and character, the qualities coaches look for beyond athletic talent. Whether itâs introducing yourself, thanking a coach after a showcase, or following up about your highlight video, a short handwritten message can turn a name on a roster into a real connection.
Coaches remember the players who make an impression, and handwriting your message is one of the simplest, most powerful ways to do it.
đŹ Where to Mail Your Postcards
Not sure where to send your postcard? Start by addressing it directly to the college coach you want to reach. Include their name, sport, and school, for example:
Coach Taylor Smith - Women's Soccer
c/o University of Michigan
123 Athletic Dept Address
Ann Arbor, MI 48109
You can usually find a coachâs mailing address in their email signature or on the athletics section of the schoolâs website under âStaff Directoryâ or âCoaches.â
If you canât find a specific athletic mailing address, just send your postcard to the schoolâs Admissions Office and include the coachâs name and sport on the envelope, theyâll make sure it gets to the right person.

What should my player write?
đïž What to Write on Your Postcard
A handwritten note doesnât have to be long, it just needs to be personal and genuine. Coaches can tell when an athlete takes the time to make it thoughtful. Here are a few ideas to help players get started:
đŹ Say Thank You
- Thank the coach for a phone call, Zoom chat, or email response.
âThank you for taking the time to talk with me last week, I really appreciated learning more about your program.â - Thank them for a camp, clinic, or campus visit.
âI really enjoyed visiting campus and meeting the team. The energy and culture really stood out to me.â
✠Share Season Highlights
- Mention how your team is doing or how your season went, especially if it shows leadership or progress.
âWe finished strong this year and made it to the state semifinals, I learned a lot about teamwork and staying focused under pressure.â
đ Show Genuine Interest
- Reference something specific about the school or program that you like.
âIâve been following your teamâs season and love how your forwards press so high, it fits my playing style perfectly.â
âI really admire your programâs focus on academics and athletics. It seems like a great environment to grow both on and off the field.â
đ Include Upcoming Events or Tournaments
- Let the coach know where they can watch you play next.
âMy next showcase is at the Blue Chip College Showcase in April, Iâll be playing with Nationals 11 Red, #12.â
âWeâll be at the ECNL event in Nashville next month, and Iâd love for you to see me play if youâll be attending.â
âš Keep It Real & Personal
Details matter. Mentioning something unique about the school, the coach, or your own goals shows effort, and that effort is what makes coaches remember you.
Will I be able to track my shipment?
Absolutely! As soon as your postcards are on their way, weâll email you a tracking link so you can keep an eye on your package and know when it will arrive.
